Workshops

The Workshop programme for 2011 has been put together to balance the energizing with the energetic … all the Workshops are suitable for adults and children and all are free to attend.

The Workshop Tent can be found just past the fire pit as you walk into the main camping area – last year we called it ‘The Workshop Tent’ … but this doesn’t do justice to this beautiful structure … if you can think of a better name, please suggest it at the Festival!

On Friday evening there will be a street dance workshop in the Barn Area and then on Saturday the Workshop Tent offers a full days activities.

Norman and Ben will be on hand to start the day with some simple exercises to balance the energy of your mind and body with Tai Chi and Yoga … please bring a mat along with you for comfort.

On Saturday and Sunday Paul returns to conduct the now legendary Small Nations Drum Circle – you don’t need to have ever drummed before – Paul will have you making music and having fun and wondering just where he gets his shirts!

Boyd will keep up the musical theme with his ‘Body Percussion’ workshop. Do you know what a boomwhacker’ is or what to do with it? Boyd is the man to ask!

Or head up back the Workshop tent where Dan the Animal Man will be telling tales of life as a Wildlife Expert – he’s promised to bring some bones along too.

Saturday afternoon promises to lift your spirits come rain or shine.

We whetted your appetite at the drum circle – now you have a chance to learn some traditional Ghanaian drum rhythms with Emmanuel and Lyndsey – as well as the dances that accompany them.

Then restore your energies with a Song Share with Sam followed by a voyage of discovery of Sahaja Meditation with Sue and the opportunity to discover the healing qualities of sound and voice with Barry.

Can you tell what’s coming as afternoon turns into evening yet? Tim will be on hand to teach you some Didgeridoo and then you can lay back and listen to Nigel tell an evening story (and last year the adults enjoyed it as much as the children).

Ben and Norman return on Sunday morning to soothe away the aches and pains from the dancing and revelling of the night before. Then our very own Dick will open your eyes and ears to a strange and ancient song “Green Grow The Rushes”. It looks at folk memory, explores the many interpretations of the cryptic verses, looks in detail at the music and how the song is put together … and of course there will be a great sing-song. Lyndsey and Emmanuel return to close the Workshop programme with a drum and a dance.

… but is that it? Well no …. keep your eyes and ears out for a few little surprises. Spontaneous laughter, random performances, you never know what you’ll come across, bring an open mind and join in!

Kids Events

New for 2011 is an array of creative, interesting, active and noisy activities for kids of all shapes, and sizes.

We have Recyclo-circus making a comeback, with more activities, more space and more people to teach you how to spin, juggle and create circus equipment at home. We also have Paul Dear and his amazing drum circles again.

On Friday there will be a street dance workshop with Gypsy and Fay, look out for the time and location when you arrive.

New to Small Nations will be the Anti’s Lounge, providing a creative space for all families and kids. Come and meet the Anti’s and the Uncools!! Join in with painting, bubble blowing, drawing and making or just play games with all their wonderful characters.

The Family Lounge will be sprouting up in the field, with a dry quiet space for you to chill out and read a book, play a game or do a jigsaw. Feel free to bring your knitting, draw a picture or tell a story.

For any budding thespians out there, why not join in with Theatr Fforum Cymru’s audience participation theatre and change the course of a well loved classic! You can even find some new friends at the theatre games workshop on Sunday.
Bedtime stories at 6pm make a come back this year with our favourite storyteller, Nigel Little.

During the weekend there are also workshops all over the site that are free to join in and mostly family friendly. With classes in Tai Chi, Yoga, African Dance and a Didgeridoo master class, you can go home full of new energy!
