Would you like to play at our festival? Here are the guidelines:
The idea behind the Small Nations Festival is to bypass the Anglo/American mainstream and make links between the music of Wales and that of other small nations. We define small nations culturally rather than geographically, and look for artists who are "representative of their culture". This applies to artists based in Wales too, though the definition is pretty broad.
If you are new to the scene or new to us, we have a limited number of showcase spaces for performers willing to play for no fee. Except in the case of obviously untried artists, our publicity material does not distinguish between performers who are paid and those who are not.
We also keep a reserve list of artists who would be suitable for the festival but who, for whatever reason, are not on the current list. They may be contacted if we have any cancellations, or if we have other suitable promotions outside the festival.
There are no stylistic barriers, although we tend to avoid middle-of-the-road commercial pop.
We do not normally book the same act two years running.
We provide free Guest House accommodation for artists who are on tour or a long way from home.
We do not normally pay transport costs, so if you are outside Britain or in a more distant part of Britain, you would need to find other work to help pay for your trip.
The following methods of submitting material are preferred:
By post including a CD, CD rom or DVD plus a written description of the music, any reviews, and at least one picture.
By e-mailing Gaynor, again with a written description of the music and a link to a web-site. If your web-site has good pictures and good audio samples of the music, a CD and printed photographs may not be necessary.
Please mention that you have read these guidelines.
Want to trade at Small Nations Festival? Better read this first:
Small Nations to many traders is known as their best festival of the summer for a mixture of reasons. We are a small, yet perfectly formed, festival with 1500 festival goers, staff, crew and artists which takes place on the second weekend on July each year. We look for a variety of stalls, both food and non-food, for the weekend which reflect our spirit and size. We are also looking for a number of healers who would like to trade in our new healing/green area. So if you have a trade that you would like to bring to our beautiful festival, please contact Sara to find out more information on pitch size, prices and availability.
Here's how you can join in Small Nations Festival as a steward:
Without stewards there is no festival and without a festival there's no fun! Each year we look for a number of stewards to help run the festival in exchange for a free weekend ticket. You don't need any previous experience, although a smile always helps. All stewards must be aged over 18 years old and willing to volunteer 15 hours over the weekend in exchange for a free weekend ticket (camping and parking included).
To join our team, please contact Owen to find out more information on the different areas you can get involved in.
